What does our mice control cost and include?
Urgent Pest Control's mice control starts from £200. That includes:
- a survey of the kitchen, utility areas, boiler cupboard, loft and outside walls to find where mice are living and getting in;
- treatment with traps or professional rodenticide in tamper-resistant bait stations, placed out of reach of children and pets;
- follow-up visits to check activity and top up, move or remove bait and traps;
- removal of all stations and bait at the end;
- advice on proofing and on what is attracting the mice.
Prices depend on the pest, the property and the time of the visit, and we'll explain the likely cost before any work starts. Most mouse jobs take one to three weeks. See all our pest control prices.
"From" means the starting price for a straightforward domestic job. If the survey shows mice in several parts of the house, a heavy infestation or a need for extra visits, we explain the likely cost before any further work starts, and you can decide whether to go ahead.
What makes mice control cost more?
The number of rooms affected, how long the mice have been there and any proofing are the biggest factors.
| Factor | Effect on price |
|---|---|
| Number of rooms or floors affected | More bait points and traps, more checking time |
| How long mice have been there | Established populations need more visits; the BPCA notes mice are adaptable, highly mobile and breed rapidly |
| Mice in walls, ceilings and the loft | Harder to reach; more careful placement of stations |
| Number of entry points | More proofing work if you choose it |
| Proofing materials | Wire wool and cement, metal kick plates, mesh over air bricks |
| Clean-up | Removing soiled loft insulation or heavy droppings is extra work |
| Commercial premises | Food businesses need documented pest control and usually a regular contract |
Proofing is where costs vary most. The BPCA says mice can squeeze through cracks as small as 5mm, and recommends blocking holes with wire wool embedded in quick-setting cement and fitting metal strips to doors. A house with one obvious gap under a back door is a quick job; an older house with gaps around every pipe is not. Our pest proofing service covers larger jobs.
Why do mice need more than one visit?
Mice are erratic feeders that nibble at many food sources rather than one, according to the BPCA, so a single trap or bait point is easily ignored. English Heritage's rodent fact sheet says house mice can produce 5–10 litters a year with 4–8 young in each, and are agile climbers found at all levels of a building. Follow-up visits let the technician see where mice are feeding, move stations to where they are active, and confirm they have gone. That is why follow-up visits are part of our price, not an extra.

How can you keep the cost down?
You can make the treatment quicker and more effective by:
- storing food, cereals and pet food in sealed metal, glass or hard plastic containers;
- cleaning under appliances and inside the backs of cupboards before the first visit;
- not using your own poison or traps alongside the treatment, which can confuse the results;
- keeping a note of where you find fresh droppings between visits;
- getting the entry points proofed once activity stops, so you don't pay for a second infestation.
Our guide on how to get rid of mice explains the DIY steps that work, and the guide on what attracts rats and mice explains how to make your home less inviting.
What about cheaper DIY products?
Snap traps cost a few pounds and work well for one or two mice when placed correctly. Other products are less useful. MyJobQuote's rat exterminator cost guide notes there is no proven evidence that plug-in ultrasonic repellers work. Glue traps can no longer be used for rodents in England without a licence under the Glue Traps (Offences) Act 2022, and licences are only available to pest controllers.
Professional-use rodenticides are restricted. The Campaign for Responsible Rodenticide Use explains that from 1 January 2026 they can only be supplied to certified users, which is why stronger products are not on the shelf.
Is mice control cheaper from the council?
It can be where a council still offers it, but many councils in our area have stopped domestic pest control or limit what they treat. When we checked council websites on 18 October 2026, Leicester City Council listed mice at £90 for two visits (then £30 per extra visit), Ashfield District Council listed rats or mice at £82 for up to three visits for its residents, Nottingham City Council listed mice inside the home at £115 (free for residents on Council Tax Support), and Derby City Council listed indoor mice at £109 online or £125 by phone for up to four visits. City of Lincoln, Newark and Sherwood, Melton and Broxtowe councils say they do not offer a treatment service. Our guide to council pest control charges lists each council in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, with what it treats and charges. For the wider picture, see our guide to pest control costs in the UK.
How much does mice control cost for a business?
Businesses usually need ongoing monitoring rather than a one-off treatment. Fantastic Services lists recurring or commercial mice plans from about £200 including VAT outside London. Food businesses in particular need written records showing pests are controlled, and English Heritage's rodent guidance notes that mice in food areas can lead to complaints, investigations by local authorities and prosecutions under food safety law. Our commercial pest control contracts are quoted after a free survey of the site.

What does it cost if mice come back?
If mice return after treatment, it is almost always because an entry point is still open or there is food they can reach. That is why we look for entry points on every visit and tell you what we find. If you have had our treatment and the mice return, call us and tell us when the treatment finished, and we will talk you through the options. Proofing once is usually cheaper than paying for repeated treatments every autumn.
When to call a professional
Call a professional if you are finding fresh droppings in more than one room, hearing mice in walls or ceilings, or if mice have come back after trapping. Food businesses, homes with babies or vulnerable people, and rented homes where the landlord needs a record of treatment are also good reasons to book.
"Gino has been outstanding in resolving our mouse problem, from fortnightly visits, professional and even worked around my working hours he was worth every penny, thank you once again for making our house a home and not something we felt disgusted about" Ollie Rai, Google review, April 2022
