Wasp nest treatment in the UK typically costs £80 to £200 including VAT, according to Fantastic Services' 2026 price guide, with council services in the East Midlands charging from £58 to £85 in 2026. Our wasp nest removal price depends on the nest, the property and the time of the visit, and we'll explain the likely cost before any work starts.

This guide sets out what councils in our area charge, what private pest controllers typically quote, what changes the price, and how to compare quotes fairly.

How much does wasp nest removal cost in the UK?

Most single nests cost between £80 and £200, with easy-to-reach nests at the lower end. The figures below come from Fantastic Services' 2026 UK guide, which says its prices include VAT. They are national market prices from another firm, not our prices.

JobRest of UKLondon and South East
Single nest, easy access£80–£130 (from around £119)£100–£160
Single nest, high or awkward access£130–£200£160–£220
Each additional nest, same visit£30–£60£40–£80

Answers from pest controllers on MyJobQuote, posted in July and August 2026, are in a similar range: individual traders quoted figures between about £70 and £180 for a nest, with one adding £30 for each extra nest found. MyJobQuote does not say whether those figures include VAT.

What do East Midlands councils charge for wasp nests?

Council prices are lower than most private quotes, but not every council runs a service, appointments are usually weekdays, and some don't treat in difficult locations. These are the published charges we found on 18 October 2026:

CouncilWasp nest chargeNotes
Derby City Council (2026/27)£74 online, £85 by phone£24 per extra nest; £24 if a ladder is needed; £32 call-out if the insects turn out to be bees
Nottingham City Council£58Free for residents on Council Tax Support; bees not treated
North West Leicestershire District Council£61.60 for one visit; £85.20 for two visits (the second removes the nest)£34.20 per extra nest; £37 call-out if no treatment is needed; free to people receiving some benefits; commercial £134
Newark and Sherwood District CouncilNo serviceThe council says: "We do not offer a pest control service."

Derby's page also says private landlord and housing association properties are charged the commercial rate, which its terms put at £85 + VAT from 1 April 2026. Check your own council's page before booking, because charges change each April and some councils stop or restart services.

How much does wasp nest removal cost with us?

Urgent Pest Control doesn't publish a single wasp price, because the time on site depends on where the nest is, how many there are and when you need us. What you can expect:

  • Clear, upfront advice on cost. We'll give you an idea of cost on the phone and explain the likely cost before any treatment starts.
  • Free advice over the phone or WhatsApp. Send a photo and we'll tell you whether it needs treating.
  • Prices that reflect the job. Height, access, the number of nests and the time of the visit (for example evenings, weekends or emergencies) all affect the cost.
  • 7 days a week, 6am to 8pm, with emergency call-outs 365 days a year and same-day visits often available.

Customers often mention that we talk through the price up front:

"Gino answered the phone within a few rings and gave clear, concise, no nonsense information about the problem, our options and the likely costs." — Will Exercise For Cake, Google review, August 2023

What affects the cost of wasp nest removal?

Time and access decide most of the price. These are the factors that move it:

Technician in a white bee suit climbing a footed ladder to a wasp nest under the verge tiles of a red-brick gable end
Height, access and equipment such as ladders and protective suits all affect how involved a wasp nest removal is.
FactorPushes the price downPushes the price up
HeightNest at or near ground levelUnder ridge tiles, high gables, chimney stacks
AccessClear entrance you can point toEntrance hidden, behind conservatories or extensions
Number of nestsOne nestSeveral nests on the same property
LocationShed, bush, airbrick, fenceWall cavity, flat roof void, inside a chimney
Follow-upColony dies after one treatmentVery large or hidden nest needing a second visit
Property typeSingle houseCommercial premises, flats with shared roofs

The size of the nest matters less than people expect. The treatment goes into the entrance, and the wasps carry it into the nest, so a football-sized nest in a loft often takes no longer than a small one.

What's included in a wasp nest treatment?

A standard treatment should include:

Technician in a white bee suit pointing to a soffit gap above a bay window while a homeowner listens at the door
After a treatment the technician explains aftercare, such as why a few wasps may still be seen near the old nest site.
  1. Finding the nest entrance, including nests hidden in roofs or cavities.
  2. Insecticidal dust applied into the entrance, usually 15 to 30 minutes on site.
  3. Aftercare advice: keep away from the area for 24 hours, keep nearby windows shut, and don't block the hole.
  4. A clear plan if activity continues. Ask what happens if wasps are still busy after a week. Redbridge Council, for example, re-treats free if large numbers are still entering 7 days after treatment.

The nest itself is normally left in place, because wasps don't reuse old nests. Our guide on whether a wasp nest is active explains how to tell when it has died.

How do you compare wasp nest quotes?

Ask each company the same questions before you book:

QuestionWhy it matters
Is there a call-out fee? Some prices exclude it
Is VAT included?Market guides differ
Do you charge extra for height or ladders?Derby City Council adds £24 for a ladder; many firms add something
What if the wasps are still active after a week?A return visit may or may not be included
Do you charge more evenings or weekends? Some firms charge emergency rates
Are you sure they're wasps, not bees?Bees need a different approach and are not killed if they can be relocated; our pest identifier helps you check

If you're not sure what you have, our guide to hornets vs wasps explains how to tell them apart.

Does the time of year change the cost?

Not usually the price per nest, but it changes whether you need to pay at all. A queen starts the nest alone in spring, so a nest found in April or May is small, quiet and quick to treat. By August and September, when nests peak, the colony is large and defensive and the wasps are more likely to come indoors through gaps in the roof or ceiling, which is when most people call.

Later in the season the sums change. Hastings Borough Council explains that in autumn all wasps die except the new queens, which leave to hibernate, and that old nests are not re-colonised. So a nest found in October or November, in a shed or hedge nobody uses, can often be left to die on its own for free. Our guide to when wasps die off explains the season month by month.

Do hornets, bees or business premises cost more?

They can, for different reasons:

  • European hornets are treated in much the same way as wasps, but their nests are often high in trees, chimneys or roof spaces, so access can add time.
  • Suspected Asian (yellow-legged) hornets should not be treated by a private firm or by you. They are reported through the official route instead; our hornet vs wasp guide explains how.
  • Bees are not treated like wasps. Honey bees and bumblebees are relocated or left alone wherever possible, and councils such as Nottingham City Council don't treat them at all. See our bee removal service.
  • Commercial premises such as shops, salons, pubs and schools often need a visit outside opening hours and a written record of the treatment, which is quoted separately.

Is it cheaper to treat a wasp nest yourself?

Shop-bought wasp dusts cost less than a call-out, but the saving disappears quickly if you get stung, fall from a ladder or only partly treat the nest. Our guide on how to get rid of a wasp nest safely explains why DIY goes wrong and what the NHS says about stings and anaphylaxis.

When to call a professional

Call a professional if the nest is in a loft, roof, wall cavity or at height; if wasps are getting into the house; if the nest is next to a doorway, path or play area; or if anyone at home is allergic to stings. If the nest is far from where people go and it's already late in the season, you may not need to pay anyone: the colony dies off in autumn.

We treat wasp nests across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire, including wasp nest removal in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester, and towns such as Grantham, Chesterfield and Hinckley. For other pests, see our pest control prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

A European hornet nest is treated much like a wasp nest, so the price depends mainly on height and access; nests high in trees, chimneys or roof spaces take longer. A suspected yellow-legged (Asian) hornet nest is different: don't pay anyone to treat it. Report it through the Asian Hornet Watch app so the government's teams can deal with it.

Some councils offer a free or reduced service for people on certain benefits. Nottingham City Council lists wasp treatment at £58, free for residents on Council Tax Support. North West Leicestershire charges £61.60 for one visit, free to people on some benefits. Newark and Sherwood District Council does not offer pest control at all.

Mostly access and time. A nest at head height by a back door takes minutes. A nest under ridge tiles, high in a gable or deep in a wall cavity may need ladders or extension equipment, and a property with several nests takes longer. Derby City Council, for example, adds £24 per extra nest and £24 where a ladder is needed.

A small nest in spring is quicker and safer to treat than a large one in August, but most pest controllers price per nest rather than per size. The bigger saving late in the season is that a nest out of the way can simply be left, because the colony dies off in autumn.

Prices depend on the nest, how hard it is to reach, the property and when you need us (for example evenings, weekends or emergencies). Call or WhatsApp us and we'll give you an idea of cost before we book the visit.
